SYMBOLISM: Black is a color symbolizing dying to oneself to rise and serve the Lord as well as giving witness of the Kingdom yet to come. White is a symbol of the light of resurrection. JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD: MODEL FOR PRIESTS Benedict XVI in choosing this theme for his homily at the priestly ordination of 15 deacons, stated: “We entrust you to him, dear brothers, especially at this moment, so that he may lead you and carry you all the days of your life; so that he may help you to become, through him and with him, good shepherds of his flock..” (St. Peter’s Basilica , Sunday, May 7, 2006.)
